Elmo represents a figment of imagination from many of our childhoods. Elmo also represents an empire. An empire driven by money and greed. The desire to fill the airways with things to get children addicted so that when they see something Elmo, they have to have it. Sounds very close to someone that is on drugs doesn’t it? They can just never get enough. The kids will sit down on the couch, watch Elmo, and have their Elmo toys right there next to them. It’s almost like a high for the little kids. For some odd reason, they just love that moment though. It’s also because of Elmo that that industry has really boomed in the last few years. Many shows for kids these days are animated and just too fake. For many kids these days think that Elmo is a thing of the past. To their credit, Elmo has been around for a while. But they have still been able to overcome that by reinventing the show entirely. Recently, they switched the cookie monster to the veggie monster. For my sake, I do not agree with this change. It is obvious that this change was a 100% political. As a kid all I wanted were cookies. That had nothing to do with the cookie monster. Now that the change has occurred, what kid would really want to eat veggies? It seems to have drawn a negative light to subject in my opinion. Even though kids are caught in the Elmo trap, nothing in the world could possibly make them switch to eating vegetables. I just cannot believe that our society would allow politics to dictate what we eat and even in this case what we allow our children to watch or be exposed to.
